Obituary for Patricia (Pond) Braden

Patricia "Patti", age 70, of LaSalle, Michigan, passed away on April 30, 2014, surrounded by her family. Patti was born and raised in Columbus, OH, and graduated from North High School in 1962. She began her political career with the Young Republicans at the age of 20. She worked at the Court House in Columbus and was a "Goldwater Girl" in 1964. She married Jim Braden July 1st, 1967, at Crestview Presbyterian Church. They made LaSalle, MI, their home, buying a small cottage on Lake Erie. Patti worked tirelessly for the Republican Party for over four decades. She and Jim managed their own architectural and property management business, Architonics, Inc. Patti hosted numerous pre–party events at their home before Lincoln-Reagan dinners, picnics and Republican gatherings. She worked closely with U.S. House party Representative, Guy Vander Jagt, Chairman of the HUD Committee, former Governor John Engler, Governor Candidate, Clark Durant, Senate Majority Leader, Randy Richardville, State Representative, Dale Zorn, and numerous other local candidates. Patti has been an officer on the Monroe County Republican Executive Committee since the 1980's and a Precinct Delegate for the Republican Party for more than thirty years. She was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1984 for Ronald Reagan. She attended many State Conventions and conferences and considered her political friends extended family. She had a memorable time attending the Rush Limbaugh show in New York with wonderful friends Dr. Ken and Trudy McNamee. She found constant comfort from close friends Glenda Kennon, Jo Bach, The Shinkle, Hohman, and Davison families, and so many others. Patti was involved with the Monroe Republican Women's Club, National Rifle Association, Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Society, Lake Erie Waterkeepers, and dedicated countless hours to the Canvassing Board.

Patti was a gifted photographer and cherished her photograph collection. She was a nature lover, and treasured every single day she awoke to the beautiful sunrise over Lake Erie. Everyone always looked forward to their Christmas card with her lake photo each year. She never took for granted the gorgeous view from her home and the amazing eagles soaring above. She enjoyed regular visits to Put-in-Bay, boating adventures, golf cart rides and always looked forward to her annual vacation in Las Vegas with her family.

Patti was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, as well as a gracious, compassionate and generous friend.

We could go on forever sharing stories and cherished memories, stating kind word upon kind word. But for all that knew Patti Braden, she was the definition of loving, generous, kind and compassionate. There are no words to describe the love she showed everyone blessed to have her in their life. Her memory will always be with us and part of her heart with each one.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and June Pond and her husband, Jim Braden. She is survived by her daughters Kimberly Braden (Doug Priddy), LaSalle, MI, stepdaughters Stephanie Braden, Baton Rouge, LA, Brenda Braden, Monroe, MI; sisters Sandy Pond, Columbus, OH, and Robin (Tom) Rice, Pittsburgh, PA; niece Amy Shawley (Mike), Columbus, OH; nephew, David Kanuth, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Cody Berry, Alexandria Prucka, Kendra (Brad) Cantrell, Kassandra Carrabino, Katelyn Carrabino, Michael Carrabino, and Elizabeth and Edward Priddy.
