Orvin Ransom "Jake" James, Jr., 86, of Gassaway, WV went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 20, 1925 in Charleston, WV to the late O. R. and Mary Fraser James. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Grand-Daughter Kelli Jo Bowman and his sister Mary Lou Thompson. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years Mae James. Son: O.R. "Randy" James III and wife Tammy of Frametown, WV. Daughters: Karen Lynn Bowman and husband Joe of Nallen, WV and Sarah Beth Harris and husband Chad of Gassaway, WV. Grand-Children: Nathan Ryan James of Morgantown, WV and Kalyn Jo Harris. Brothers: William E. James of Gassaway, WV and Charles E. James of Grafton, WV. Orvin was a World War II Navy Veteran where he served as Gunner's Mate 3rd class on the Destroyer, USS Stevens, member of the Gassaway Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years, member of Braxton County EMS for over 30 years, and a member of the Braxton County Flying Club for many years. He retired from the railroad where he worked as a brakeman and conductor for 31 years. He also was a cabinetmaker for many years for the James Cabinet Shop in Gassaway. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Braxton County Memorial Hospital for the care and comfort they provided. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 7 at the Gassaway Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Stump and Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.
