Norman Eugene Cosby

CREAL SPRINGS -- Norman Eugene Cosby, 80, passed away at 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, in Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs with the Rev. Edward "Shorty" Alsop officiating. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the funeral home.

Mr. Cosby was born May 3, 1930, in Creal Springs to Hoyt and Verna Lee Cosby.

Survivors include his son, Gary Cosby and wife, Christine, of Granite City; daughter, Sherry Jo Cosby-Ray of Marion; grandchildren, Sgt. Dylan Greeney of Herrin, Jackson Ray of Marion, Jacob Ray of Marion, Dustin Murphy of Granite City, Ashley Murphy-Storck and husband, Ken, of Okawville, Stacie Travelstead-Pasoni of Marion and Nikki Travelstead-Gulley of Marion; great-grandchildren, Aaron Murphy and Tyler Storck of Okawville; nieces, Sharon Bostic and husband, Jack, of Chatham, Terri Steele and husband, Kenny, of Creal Springs and Jo Cavitt of Marion; and great-nieces, Tammy Gamble, Tracy Merrell and Teresa Linnartz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James C. Cosby; sister, Imogene Cavitt; and nephews, Thomas Lynn and James Dwayne Cavitt.

The Cosbys owned and operated Cosby Funeral Home in Creal Springs for many years. Mr. Cosby had previously lived in Creal Springs. He was formerly married to Connie Boyd Cosby. He retired from Allen Industries in Herrin.

Mr. Cosby served in the U.S. Navy on the Kula Gulf aircraft carrier. He was an avid baseball fan and was especially fond of the Chicago Cubs.

The family would like to thank Heartland Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Southern Illinois for their kind treatment during this time of need. Donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
