MRS. ERWIN, CITY PIONEER, DIES
Mrs. Stella Erwin, 77, 205 W Tilden, died early Tuesday morning at the Walker Air Force Base Hospital following a short illness. She had been a Roswell resident about 40 years.
Born in Texas on October 17, 1884, she married John Hugh Erwin and moved to New Mexico in 1907, homesteading near Elida in the vicinity of Railroad Mountain.
In the early 1920s, the couple moved to Roswell where Erwin was a member of the Roswell Police Force until his death in 1929.
Mrs. Erwin was a member of the First Methodist Church here.
Survivors include her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Radcliff of Portales, New Mexico, a daughter Mrs. Mary Ruth Bennett, 807 Adams Dr., three brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services are pending arrival of out-of-town relatives. The Ballard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
