Edward George Higgins was the only child of Alfred Higgins, Jr. and Lydia Margaret (Mylar) Higgins. Eddy was born at the home of his grandparents Alfred Higgins, Sr. and Jane (Routh) Higgins in Ukiah, Mendocino County, California on September 10, 1877. Lydia and Alfred divorced in 1880 and left Edward in the custody of his mother. Eddy, his mother Maggie, and her second husband James A. Martin were living in Yolo County when she died. Custody of Eddy was granted by the courts to his grandmother Lydia Margaret (Neal, Sale, Mylar) Richardson.
In 1914, Eddy resided in Hickman, California and worked as a teamster. On May 20, 1914, Edward G. Higgins married Edith E. Griffith in Fresno, California. Edith Griffith was born in Fresno County on May 31, 1895.
During the years the children were arriving Eddy worked mainly as a farmer and Edith was a homemaker. During the winter of 1917/1918 Eddy Higgins was robbed and beaten into a four day unconsciousness. He never fully recovered and suffered reoccurring attacks of unconsciousness and degeneration of his health resulting in his death on December 4, 1921, in Stockton. He was cremated and his ashes were buried with his grandmother Lydia Richardson in Oakdale, California.
