Lulu E. Arbuthnot, eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C.M. Arbuthnot was born in Belleville and lived all her life there. She was a graduate of the Belleville High School and attended the University of Kansas.

She was a member of the Shakespeare club, the Legion Auxiliary, and the order of the Eastern Star. She had an extensive musical education and a deep appreciation and love of the best in music. She had an unusually keen and brilliant mind and was an exceptional business woman. She took much pride and joy in her many years as a bookkeeper in her father's drug store and was a valued employee of the United Telephone Co. for several years.

Although she had numerous opportunities of advancing in the business world and in a measure living more of a life of her own, it would have necessitated leaving Belleville and the love of home and family was too strong. This devotion was most remarkable and was a dominant trait in her character.

Through her long illness, her high courage never faltered and although she must have had secret misgivings about her recovery and wanted so to live, she had no fear in her heart.

The many acts of kindness by her friends and the various organizations to which she belonged attest the high standing she had in the community. Love and kindly care ever surrounded her and for all of which she was deeply grateful. Her last days were beautiful memories.

She passed peacefully away Friday evening, Oct. 5th.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by Rev. Harry Kennedy of the Episcopal church, Rev. Smalley assisting. Interment in the Belleville cemetery.--Belleville Telescope:
(Miss Arbuthnot was a sister of S.E. Arbuthnot of Republic.)
