The American Legion Post of Hartley conducted military funeral services at 2:0 p.m., Thursday, July 7 at the North Lawn Cemetery at Spencer for Gerney Preves Edwards
Mr. Edwards died in the Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines, Monday July 4, from the effects of poisoning.
Gerney Preves Edwards, son of Emma and James Edwards, both of whom preceded him in death was born at New Belleville, Indiana, August 30, 1897 and died July 4, 1938, at the age of 40 years, 10 months and 5 days
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Grinnell.
He served his country with honors in the World War and was a member of the National Guard.
He was well known as a commercial artist in Des Moines, where he made his home for several years after leaving Moneta
He leaves to mourn his passing, four daughters, Wilma, Ruth and Martha of Moneta and Rhea of Grundy Center; a son, Keith of Moneta; a brother, Willard of Indianapolis, Indiana; and uncle, Willard Ayres of Des Moines, a cousin, Wilber David of Indianapolis, Indiana and his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. Smartwood of Moneta
Rev. Arthur Sebastian, pastor of the Moneta Church, officiated at the funeral
Interment was in the North Lawn Cemetery at Spencer with Jones Funeral Home in charge
Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur David and Willard Edwards of Indianapolis, Indiana, Willard Ayres of Des Moines and Duane Hartzell of Charter Oak
