Kenneth A. (Ken) Bartz, age 76, longtime Two Rivers resident, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 2014 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc, surrounded by his loving family.

Ken was born in Milwaukee on November 14, 1937, a son of the late Walter and Aurelia (Witt) Bartz. He attended schools in Milwaukee and then served his country in the 509th Bomb Wing of the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. He later furthered his education, earning a degree in Marketing from Fox Valley Technical College. On June 1, 1959, he married Jean Gauthier in Manitowoc. Ken worked several jobs over the years including manager of the A&W in Two Rivers from1978 -1982; he then owned & operated a semi truck and traveled cross country for nine years, followed by owning/operating East Side Beer & Liquor in Two Rivers until his retirement.

Ken was a true family man who enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren; he enjoyed camping, fishing, and time at his cottage in Crivitz. He was a volunteer for many years at the Two Rivers Ecumenical Pantry. He was a twenty three year member of the Kiwanis Club of Two Rivers receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award just two weeks ago. Ken served three terms as club president; co-chaired the Two Rivers Fish Derby for fifteen years, and served as the Derby Book Chairman. He also earned the George F. Hixon Diamond Fellowship Award, Case VanKleef Fellowship Award, and the Ruby K Award. He truly lived by the motto that giving is more important than taking.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; four children: Kim Repinski of Two Rivers, Stacy (Mike) Backhaus of St. Nazianz, Dawn (Eric) Anderson of Kewaskum, Kenneth C. Bartz and special friend, Laura Bender of Two Rivers; grandchildren & great grandchildren include: John (Vanessa) Ruether, Jr. and their daughter, Isabella; Andrea Regina and children, Brandon & Decklin; Shaelynn (Doug) Ramthun and their children, Gadge, Kierra, Makayla & Brieann; Tristynn Hanes and special friend, Justin and their son, Cody; Jared Repinski and daughter, Aryanna; Mos-haw-quit Bartz; Vincent Hanes and daughter, Olivia; MaKenzie Anderson; and Camryn Anderson. He is further survived by three brothers and one sister, Elmer (Joan) Bartz, William Bartz, Ronald (Lynn) Bartz, and Marilyn Brachmann; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law include: Mary (Peter) Kober, Albert Gauthier, Roseanne Gauthier, David (Carol) Gauthier, Janet (Larry) Grunewald, Leon (Julie) Gauthier; many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tammey Marie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mavis and Albert Gauthier; one brother, Walter; two brothers-in-law, Nicholas Gonzales and Marvin Brachmann; and a sister-in-law, Christina Gonzales.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Reynebeau, with entombment to follow at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will be accorded at the church immediately following the mass by members of American Legion Post 165 and VFW Post 1248 of Two Rivers.

Friends may call at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St. Two Rivers, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning at the church after 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 10:30 a.m.
