Carol Jean Biggs-Stewart, 79, of Matheny went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born February 4, 1935 in Ameagle, WV, she was the daughter of the late Van Buren Biggs (1910-1987) and Leona Frances Harris-Biggs (1911-2007).

Ms. Stewart was a homemaker. She was famous for her roast beef and gravy and potato salad. She was an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues. She was a member of the Oceana Woman's Club and the Homemaker's Club. Ms. Stewart was a lifetime member of Matheny United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Stacy Edward Stewart (1930-2005) whom she married on June 26, 1954 in Hatcher, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1954, Page 54, Application Date: June 19, 1954). Her brothers, Roy Biggs (1930-2004) and Sgt. Major Earl Roger Biggs (1932-1968) and a nephew, Roger Wayne Biggs (1955-1958) also preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Paul Stewart and Lori Stewart of Oceana; grandchildren, Rebecca Stewart and her companion Josh Lusk of Lynco, Matthew Kyle Stewart of England, and Staci Anne Stewart of Athens; brother, Frank Biggs and his wife Geri of CA; a sister, Kay Stewart and her husband Troy of Huntington; two sisters-in-law, Pat Biggs of Matheny and Edna Biggs of Glen Fork; special friends, Murl Darnell, Sabrina Adams, Tammy Blankenship and Dorothy Brooks; a host of nieces and nephews; and Lauren and Jordan Manning, of Oceana, who were very dear to her heart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 10, 2014 Evans Funeral Home in Oceana, WV. She will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
