Teddie K. Moore, 90, of Jakes Run, found comfort with the Lord on Monday, June 19th, 2017. He was reunited with his previously departed family and friends and especially with the love of his life, childhood sweetheart, and wife of 60 years, Hilma Tennant Moore.
He was born in Jakes Run, located in western Monongalia County on January 18, 1927, where he grew up. He graduated from Clay-Battelle High School in 1945 and married Hilma that same summer. They established their home in Jakes Run where they lived their entire adult lives and raised their family.
Dad or “Pop” as he was lovingly referred to by his family, was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed life to the fullest and remained healthy throughout his 90+ years. He loved carpentry, gardening, and fishing. He really loved spending time with his family daily, but he especially loved family vacations. Most summers, he and Hilma would pack the family up and head to the beach for a couple of weeks. He truly enjoyed going to the beach each year, which always intrigued us as children because he could not swim (not even a lick!) It was later in our lives when we came to realize that while he loved watching the ocean, it was being with his family at the beach that he loved the most. He had big plans for the beach vacation once again this year.
Ted worked at WVU for a short time and then was employed at Pennzoil for over 20 years. He left there and began working underground as a coal miner at Blacksville No. 1 and finally worked at Blacksville No. 2 as a Warehouseman; a job that he hated to retire from. Upon retirement, he and Hilma spent all of their time together and with the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They traveled around the country and created many treasured memories with the family.
Pop’s final mission in life was to bring joy and happiness to his family. He always ended every phone call or visit with a “Thanks for calling!” or a “Thanks for stopping by”.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hilma; parents, Fred and Jessie Lee Moore of Jakes Run; his paternal family, two brothers, Fred Moore “Junior” and wife Peg. Willis Moore, who died as an infant; two sisters, Vera and Wayne Tennant senior and Ruth Steinbeck; paternal grandparents, Perry and Sarah Moore; maternal grandparents Mary Ann McFeters and John Linsay Wilson. In addition to Hilma, he was preceded in death by many of her family, including her father and mother, Sherman and Edna Tennant; two brothers-in-law, Jim Ross Tennant, and John Randy Tennant. He was also preceded by many other family and friends of his 90 years.
He is survived and missed by his daughter and “son”-in-law, Sherry and Dave Frazier of Jakes Run; a son and “daughter”-in-law, Todd and Carlene Moore also of Jakes Run; five grandsons: David Frazier and Lori Frum, Michael Frazier, Billy and Rachel Frazier, Bryan Moore, and Zachary Moore; three great-grandsons: Brandt Frazier, Wyatt Frazier, and Zander Frazier; and one great-granddaughter, Sydney Frazier.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville, WV on Friday, June 23 from 1-4 and from 7-9 and on Saturday, June 24 from 10-11 with the funeral service at 11 am, officiated by Joyce Bennett. He will be laid to rest beside Hilma at the Olive Cemetery after passing through Daybrook and Jakes Run one last time.
