Wilbert J. Jurgens, 86, of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 14, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Benton County, son of Rudolf and Anna Peters Jurgens. He married Mary Arlene Meeker Feb. 14, 1946, in La Porte City.
He graduated from Geneseo Consolidated Schools in 1942. Mr. Jurgens farmed with his family and worked for Titus Manufacturing Co., retiring in Terrell, Texas. He was a past-president of Black Hawk Gem and Mineral Society.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Steven of Waterloo; and a daughter, Jean Ann (Tony) DeBella of Concord, Calif.
Preceded in death by a sister, Helen; and two brothers, Marvin and Ervin.
Private family gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. next Sunday at 2661 Manor St. in Waterloo. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the family at 2661 Manor St., Waterloo, IA 50702.
He enjoyed fishing and was an avid "rock hound". He displayed cases of finished jewelry in Iowa and Texas and at the International Show. His big thrill was winning the "Best of Show" trophy at the Dallas, Texas Show in 1999. He also completed family genealogy for over 40 years.
