Arvid Ronald Coleman, 71, of Pahrump, Nev., died Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2005, when the car he was driving was hit by a drunk driver.

Ronald "Sonny" was born to Arvid and Irene Coleman of Butte April 17, 1934. He was raised in Butte's Dublin Gulch, and attended Washington School. He graduated in 1953 from Butte High, where he participated in track and learned to play the trumpet. Ron and his faithful dog Brownie delivered The Montana Standard many years.

After graduating, he worked a short time in the mines with his father. He then attended the University of Montana in Missoula and then joined the Navy. When he left the Navy he met Barbara Warila of Butte. They later married, moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and had a son. They divorced a few years later. Ron drove cab in Santa Monica and then ran an used book store. After that venture, he moved to North Las Vegas, Nev., and drove cab. Ron decided to retire in Pahrump, where he bought property and continued driving cab.

Ron was a kind, compassionate man. He loved animals and could not stand to see them abused. He took in many dogs and cats and made a home for them.

His other love was music. He loved to sing and had a very good voice, which many people enjoyed at the different karaoke clubs where he sang. After he died, some clubs held memorial services for him. He made many good friends at the clubs.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Bill Bukema.

Survivors include his son, Ronald B. Coleman, San Jose, Calif.; sisters, Betty Jane Coleman, Butte, Audrey Bukema, Butte, and Dolores (Lowell) Mallon, Dillon; nieces and nephews in Butte, Dillon and Washington state.

He will be sadly missed by his family.

A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
