Blackie was really like another sibling to me while growing up in a rural area of Tennessee. His ever-present form was always near myself or one of my siblings as we played outside, climbed trees, played ball in the fields or sat on the porch while waiting for a rainshower to pass. He was fiercely loved by all of us, defending us against snakes or the occasional stray dog. Even during his senior years he would find a way to stand up and stretch his muscles and off he'd go to keep up with our steps. He was deeply loved by all of us.
