Gail Kauffman Abbott, 94, formerly of Dallastown, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Gale Abbott. Mrs. Abbott was born June 23, 1919, at York Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Solomon and Edna Kauffman. Gail was raised in Dallastown and graduated from Dallastown High School in 1937.
During World War II, she worked at the Department of The Navy in Washington, D.C., and it was during this time she met Gale R. Abbott. They were married on October 24, 1942. Gale was a career Marine, and this meant that "Gale and Gail" lived away from Pennsylvania for most of their lives. However, Gail was always a daughter of Dallastown, and the town never left her heart. In addition to her husband and parents, Gail was preceded in death by her three sisters, Ann Strayer, Helen Wambaugh, and Rachel Kauffman.
She is survived by her three children, Bob Abbott and his wife, Belinda of Jacksonville, Fla., Bill Abbott and his wife, Claudia of Swansboro, N.C., and Nancy Abbott of Jacksonville, Fla. Additionally she is survived by nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Gail lived an abundant life full of faith, love, and charity. She will be missed. A memorial service to honor Gale and Gail will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown. Interment will follow in Dallastown Union Cemetery. To share online condolences please visit www.eberlyfuneralhome.com
