William Thomas "Tom" Battle was born on May 23, 1927, the son of James Marshall Battle (1904–1986) and Grace (McCurdy) Battle (1904–1985).
He was retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service.
Tom was 86 years old when he passed away peacefully on April 6, 2014 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by two daughters; three sons; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held at Donelson Presbyterian Church, and his body was donated to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, with burial in Nashville National Cemetery at some future date, with Military Honors.
