Son of William Mearl and Billie Louise Gaines Jontz. He was a passenger on US Airways Flight 1016, which crashed on approach to Charlotte Douglas International Airport when it encountered severe wind shear problems during heavy thunderstorms. Thirty-seven of the fifty-seven people on-board were killed.
