William Wallace Hite, Veteran of Civil War, Passes Away

Saturday evening, August 20th, William Wallace Hite died at his home north of Ellettsville. He was born at Mt. Tabor in 1841. In 1866, he was married to Eliza Miller who died in 1886. Later he was married to Eva Shook, who with the following children survive: Grundy and Dos Hite, Maud Goble, Emma Stinehagen, Jennie Miles, Elsie Myers, Syble Stines, Calvin, Henry, Ovan and Leslie Hite.

For more than a year the deceased has been in feeble health, and since May has been confined to his bed. He bore his suffering with courage, patience and resignation. He was a veteran of the civil war and saw three years of hard service and many privations, being often in the thickest of the fray.

Funeral services were held Monday at the residence of the late Dr. Walker, the Rev. William Miller Officiating. Burial followed at the Walker grave yard in charge of the Knights of Pythias of Stinesville of which lodge the deceased was an esteemed member.
