Obituary for Douglas "Papa" E. Kincaid, Sr.

Douglas Edward Kincaid, Sr., age 78, Crandon, WI, passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Thursday, August 8, 2013. He was born in Crandon on October 26, 1934, to Lloyd A. and Dorothy M. (Moore) Kincaid.

Doug married his high school sweetheart Jacqueline Ann Skidmore, eloping to Mabel, Minnesota, with good friends Mary & Eugene Champine, on May 19, 1956. Douglas and Jacqueline started a loving family of six children, Douglas, Jr. (Christine) Kincaid, Melinda (Earl) Otto, Holly Kulinski (Kevin Pence), Tracey Mayer, Steven (Michelle) Kincaid, and Jeffery (Colleen) Kincaid. The family flourished throughout 57 years of marriage. Bringing much joy to his life, Doug was grandfather to 18: Erica (Jason) Neilitz, Joseph Mayer, Sarah (Nate) Adler, Kristi Otto, Ashly (Samuel) Hartmann, Kain Kulinski (Nicole Hanson), Jake (Erin) Mayer, Kody (Katie) Kulinski, Kasey (Kyle) Keao, Jesse Otto (Jenna Fraley), Jaci Mayer (Mike Kieper), Hope (Dustin) Pence, Jeffery Mayer, Kurt Kincaid, Keegan (Kathryn) Kincaid, RJ Renkas, Kory Kincaid, and Tye Renkas; and, great-grandfather to 19 +: Cassidy, Blake, Alexa, Ava, Kolten, Konner, Carsyn, Kruz, Zayne, Mavrik, Grace, Reece, Macie, Loyal, Doug, Korbyn, Kayden, Chase, Scarlet, and baby Kulinski due in January. His family always felt his quiet, strong, and reliable presence. Family was important to Doug, and all were welcome in his home. He was known as “Papa” by his family and extended family.

Doug had a strong sense of community and enjoyed his decades of service on the City Council, County Board, and various committees; he was respected by many for his thoughtful perspective. He always made sure to get the latest information over coffee at one of the local restaurants. Doug possessed a subtle humor and warmth that put everyone around him at ease.

Showing a competitive spirit early on, Doug successfully competed in lumberjack competitions. Later he provided guidance and support as crew chief for his son’s off-road race team for over 20 years. Doug thoroughly enjoyed every part of this racing process, including the fact that it was truly a family affair. He proudly received the “Mechanic of the Year” award in the 2000 CORR season.

He had many occupations throughout his life, starting with an enlistment in the Army and later, working at American Motors, as a machine operator, in logging operations, and as a supervisor for Mitchell Enterprises. Doug retired from his most recent job as Site Coordinator at Nicolet Minerals, after more than 20 years. Beyond retirement, he stayed busy fixing up cars, shoes, or anything that needed it. Throughout the winter months he always made sure his family’s driveways were cleared of snow.

Doug is further survived by his sister Gail Greene, of St. Louis, Missouri, and brother Don Kincaid, of Nekoosa, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Vern, and sister Kay, and his oldest son Douglas, Jr.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 12, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Crandon from 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m., followed by a service beginning at 4:00 p.m. Honoring him as pallbearers are his 12 grandsons. Weber-Hill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
