Carolyn Lea Smith Beran died May 9, 2014 after suffering a stroke. Carolyn was the daughter of John Edward Smith and Blondora Hodge. She graduated Civic Memorial High School class of 1965. She was is a laboratory technician at Alton Memorial Hospital, in Alton IL. Carolyn married Anthony Steven Beran Dec. 10, 1971 at the Concordia Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband a son, Michael Beran and four sisters; Marilyn Sutterer of Granite City, Nancy Brown of Quincy, IL., Christine Wesley of Sacramento, Calif., and Alice Smith of Cottage Hills. In addition her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Catherine Elaine Smith. No services were scheduled.

Miss Carolyn Lea Smith of 2436 Alby St., became the bride of Anthony Steven Beran of Godfrey in a ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday Dec. 10, 1971 at the Concordia Lutheran Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Smith of 44 Prospect ,St., Cottage Hills. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Steven Beran of Rte. 2, Godfrey.
The Rev. Arthur Kaul, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony and Mrs. Agnes Dauer provided the nuptial music. A reception was given immediately following the ceremony in the church social, room.
Miss Christine Smith was her sister's maid of honor and Miss Alice Marie Smith, also sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Stanley Beran and Jerry Beran, both brothers of the bridegroom, were best man and groomsman, respectively.
Roy Wesley and Joseph Beran seated the guests.
Mrs. Beran is a laboratory technician at Alton Memorial Hospital, where her husband is employed as custodian.
