Mrs. Penelope Ann Chaffe.
Yesterday there departed, full of years, and the honors and virtues which are as a crown to her sex, Mrs. Penelope Ann Chaffe, wife of John Chaffe, an old an honorable merchant of this city.
There are quiet, unobtrusive workers in the broad field of charity, gleaners in corners where the reapers have failed to reap, and sowers of seed which in the crevices of stony ground have borne blossoms rivals of the lily of the valley.
In this class of patient, persevering and devoted laborers in the vineyard of this world, was the late Mrs. Chaffe. Hers was a life illustrative of practical Christianity, which, in its good deeds, leaves footprints to be followed on the sands of Time.
She has gone, but the sweet incense of a life made holy by a charity which knew no creed or condition will attach to her memory and embalm her in the hearts of sorrowing relatives and friends.
