It is not known when or where John Barr was born. His first child was born about 1773, therefore he may have been born around 1750. His will, was dated 10 Oct 1805 and filed in Franklin Co., PA on 20 May 1806. John Barr was the son of William Barr of West Nantmeal Tp., Chester Co., PA whose will was dated 1776. John Barr was a First Lieutenant in Company 5 (under Captain Joseph Culbertson) of the 6th Battalion (under Col. Samuel Culbertson) of the Cumberland County Militia during the Rev. War.
He had an unknown first wife, by whom he had three children that survived. He married second to Susannah McCune, born about 1743, daugher of John McCune, and died 7 Dec 1813 [age 70] in Montgomery Tp., Franklin Co., OH.
There is no surviving tombstone for John Barr. Because John and Susannah Barr were members of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church (as well as John's brothers William and Samuel), and their farm, just over the county line in Letterkenny Tp., Franklin Co., was only five miles from this church, it is logical to consider that he was buried in this cemetery. John Barr was the only one of his siblings who remained in this part of Pennsylvania.
