Sterling Elton Sumner Age 60.
Sterling Elton Sumner, who was an amazing father, friend, and husband ended his long battle with Multiple Sclerosis on September 10, 2007. Although he endured a daily life limited by disease, he persisted with optimism, and his infectious laugh and joyous humor will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He was born on November 24, 1946 to Elton and Nedra Prince Sumner in Provo, Utah. He attended schools in Provo and Salt Lake City and received a degree in political science from the University of Utah. Sterling served an LDS mission to Northern Germany and looked for every chance to be a missionary ever after.
He married Donna Jean Bird on May 14, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple, she preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his parents, son, Sterling Christian, and grandson, Matthew Ethan Wade.
He married Wendy Susan Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on April 20, 1983.
His wife survives him as well as seven children: Stephanie (Mark) Wade, Josh (Kelli) Sumner, Susanna Ashley, Rachel, Kaitlyn, Amanda, Jordan Sumner and grandchildren: Elizabeth, Riley, Lily. He is also survived by his siblings: DeeAnn, Frank, Colleen Sumner, Mary (Mike) Stansfield. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. September 13th at the Sego Lily Ward in Sandy and one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services will be held September 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sego Lily Ward 10310 So. Ashley Park Drive. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
