James Howard Murphy was the son on Timothy Murphy and Mary Jane McManus. He was married to Francis Jane Burke in 1876 and had 11 children. He was a farmer and settled in the Piccadilly area until the fire of 1903. Then relocated to Norton.

The funeral of the late James H. Murphy took place from his home in Norton on Monday, 8th inst., at 10 a.m., to the Sacred Heart Church where a solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father McDermott. Internment took place in the Sacred Heart cemetery.

The deceased was the father of eleven children all of whom are living and leaves his widow, residing at Norton. Of the eight sons, John P., Fred M, Luke and Warren and Charles are located in the Western provinces; Walter, a member of the first Canadian contingent, having enlisted last September; Ambrose of Toronto, and Mark, recently of St. Francis Xavier College, Antigonish. Of the daughters, Mrs. F. Cogger resides in North Battleford (Sask); Annie is attending Mr. St. Bernard and Evelyn at home. There are also three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. M.J. Sullivan, Mrs. A.J. Fennell and Mrs. P.J. Danahy, Patrick, Timothy and Andrew. The pallbearers were James Loughery, P. Cogger, J.S. Byron, A. Ryan, John Gallagher, all residents of Norton, and M. J. Sullivan, of Sussex.
