Norman Price Smith was born in 1909 in Round Valley, Utah to Arthur Andrew Smith and Alice Price Smith. He was the fourth of six children. In 1915, his mother Alice gave birth to his youngest sibling Harold, and both Alice and Harold died.
The five surviving Smith children were sent to live with various members of the Price family who mostly resided in the Bear Lake Valley. Norman lived with his aunt Elizabeth Price Astle and her family who lived near Logan, Utah. Norman's father Arthur settled in California and remarried.
In 1933, Norman met Alyce Jorgensen in Preston, Idaho. That same year they married in Pocatello, Idaho, and later solemnized their marriage in the Logan LDS Temple. They had two children, Lee and Susan.
Norman died in 1984 in Ogden, Utah and was buried in the Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden.
