Korey was a jack of all trades and worked at River Run Golf Course in North River. In Korey's short time here, he traveled to many places, including Dominican Republic at the young age of eight and nine and he also journeyed to Fort McMurray on his own to work for a couple of years. He loved doing mechanical work with his Dad and will be forever remembered by his catchphrase, "Daaaaaaaad, can you help me?", and for his love of race trucks and anything fast. The cute kid with the awesome smile lived his life with no regrets; he was an average teenager who danced to the beat of his own drum.
Along with his parents and step-parents, Korey is survived by his brother, Kraig, Stewiacke; paternal grandmother, Leola Bates, Stewiacke; maternal grandmother, Darlene (Ian) Conway, Middle Stewiacke; maternal grandfather, Dave Babineau, North River; paternal great grandmother, Flossie Hutchinson, Truro; maternal great grandmother, Ruby MacLean, Truro; step-grandparents, Win and Ruth Matheson, Brookfield; Carol MacKenzie, Truro; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Walter Bates; step-grandfather, George MacKenzie. Although we are deeply saddened that Korey is no longer with us, we take great comfort in his gifts of tissue and bone that will help so many.
We will celebrate Korey's life on his birthday, 6 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014, at Middle Stewiacke United Church, 21 Cloverdale Road, Middle Stewiacke, Reverend Boyd Vincent officiating. Interment in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Korey's memory may be made to a charity of choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Korey's obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
