Ray is a son of Alvin Weekes Munns and Clara Jane Brindley. He has five siblings: Alta Irene, Howard Alvin, Ralph Dean, Glen William, and David.
Ray served a two and a half year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Spanish American Mission. Nola Ruth Moulton waited for him. They married upon his return on July 2, 1952.
Ray and Nola became parents to nine children: Clair, Alan, Larry, Vaughn, Linda, Laurie, Charles, Lana, and Kerry, who died at six months of age.
The family lived in Camas, Idaho where they ranched and raised their children until Ray's untimely death due to a tragic accident.

Ray B. Munns, 43, a Hamer rancher, was killed when the station wagon he was driving was struck by a Union Pacific Freight train seven miles north of Hamer.
