Billy Lawrence Oswald, 59, of Meridian, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, in an Abilene hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, in Meridian Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

Billy was born in Gatesville, Texas, to Alton and Jean Oswald. At a young age, his family moved to Meridian where he graduated from high school. Billy had worked as a carpenter for several years before joining the Marines in 1973 and served until 1977. He was injured while in the service and was declared disabled. Billy was baptized in the Meridian First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Oswald; step-father, Floyd Rosenquist; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Neystel.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Oswald Rosenquist, of Meridian; step-brother, G. E. Rosenquist, of Richardson; other relatives, Shayne, Kolton, Kendal and Kaleb, of Galveston, Nan Neystel and Chip Sulak, of Whitney; number of other relatives and many friends.
