He was born in Oshkosh, on June 28, 1912, the son of the late Richard and Augusta Barels. In 1939 he married Isabelle Larson and she preceded him in death in 1960. Albert then married Margaret Brunover in 1960.
He was employed at Buckstaff's as a cabinetmaker for many years until his retirement. Albert was a charter member of Emmanuel United church of Christ and cared for the flower gardens at the church for many years. He was an accomplished ice boater, enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved flower gardening.
Survivors include his wife Margaret of Oshkosh, one son Philip (Patricia) Bartels of Appleton, Step-son Thomas (Carrie) Brunover of Oshkosh, step-daughter Judy (Gilbert) Wolf of Warrenton, VA Twelve step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Albert was preceded in death by two sisters Bessie Butzlaff and Eleanor Bartels, two brothers Henry and George.
Funeral services for Albert will be held on Friday September 5, 2003 at 12:00 p.m. in Emmanuel United Church of Christ with the Rev. David Gaskill officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial in Albert's name has been established.
The family extends a sincere thank you to Mercy Medical Center ER physicians and staff, hopitalists, 2B, 2C and sub Acute staff for the extended care and compassion extended to Albert. A special thank you to Mary Ann for her caring compassionate non-confrontational professionalism which far exceeded expectations during a difficult time.
