John Robert "Johnny" Britton, 58, died at &:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Born Nov. 21, 1946, in Alton, he was the son of Charlotte (Pence) Britton of Cottage Hills and the late John Robert Britton. He was a group leader at Olin Corp. with 40 years of dedicated service. He was owner and operator of the family courier business, JB Services in Bethalto. A member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254 and the Westerner Club, he was also a union committeeman for Machinists Local 9. He will be remembered for the love of his family and friends and his love of hot rods, whether fixing or showing them. He married Patricia "Pat" Howard on June 3, 1966, in Bethalto. She survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived and will be dearly missed by one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jody Britton of Bethalto; one granddaughter, Jenni Britton of Bethalto; three brothers and two sisters-inlaw, Bill and Peggy Shewmaker of East Alton, Mike and Diane Britton of Collinsville and Wayne Britton of St. Louis; other extended family; and many dear friends.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. until a memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Elias-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory in Bethalto, with Rev. Ron Woods officiating.
