Melvin David Jenkins, 75, Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, formerly of 213 Maple Ave., Ames, died Saturday from complications of a stroke at Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown. Services will be held Wednesday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Christopher Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Story Methodist Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Ames Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Melvin Jenkins was born in Carroll, Neb., to Dave and Mary (Jones) Jenkins. He lived in Ames for 34 years, and he was employed at the Iowa Department of Transportation for 24 years as a maintenance worker. He retired in 1981.

From 1941 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army, and he was awarded five bronze stars. On Oct. 30, 1942, he married Lucille Wittler in Winside, Neb. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Calvary United Methodist Church.
