Burrows, Charles Robert age 95, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Mpls., passed away May 20, 2014. Preceded in death by wife of 69 years, Shirley Lorraine Carroll. Survived by sons, Charles Stephen (Chris) and William; grandchildren, sister-in-law, Charlotte Burns; nieces and nephews.

Chuck was number eight of nine siblings. As a teen during the Depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked with crews developing Gooseberry Falls State Park. In 1939 he enlisted in the Naval ROTC program at the U of M. After receiving his biology degree he was assigned to the Battleship USS Tennessee in December 1942 and served as First Lieutenant. He participated in 14 major operations in the South Pacific including Iwo Jima, Saipan, Leyte Gulf, Okinawa and Pelelui. He retired from the US Navy Reserves as Captain. He received the Navy Commendation Medal in a special ceremony honoring his service on February 25, 2014.

He spent his civilian career working for the MN DNR as a biologist and retired in 1980 as Director of Fish and Game. Memorials to Alzheimer's Association. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
