Son of Francis and Elizabeth Barker (Foster) Ingalls.

Served in the 1st MA Sharpshooters.

On 19 Aug 1861 Charles mustered into service with the 1st Company Massachusetts Sharpshooters as a Sergeant. He was 41 years, 1 month and 10 days old. He mustered out on 15 Dec 1862 by discharge for disability due to sunstroke.

Starting in 1868 for the following ten years, he was the master carpenter of the Eastern Railroad. He had charge of building a section of the Northern Pacific R. R. from Duluth, Minn., and died before its completion.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Charles died at Hawley, Minnesota, and the death was registered in Danvers, MA. He was 66 years and 1 month old.
