Derryl Luther Whittemore, Sr. passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at home with his family and friends beside him. He was born the son of Margaret and Luther Whittemore in Johnson City, Tennessee. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years and was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base; Kadena AFB – Okinawa; Anderson AFB – Guam; McCord AFB – Washington; Homestead AFB – Florida; Minot AFB – North Dakota. After his retirement, he continued his service to his country at the Naval Coastal Systems Station. Derryl enjoyed each day of his life and was well respected by everyone he knew. If you needed a good laugh, you could call Derryl. If you wanted to fish, go boating or eat a good meal, call Derryl. His most cherish possession was his family and each day they knew how cherished they were. Derryl is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ella Rose (Porter) Whittemore; son, Derryl Whittemore, Jr., daughter, Natalie Hall; son-in-law, Robert Hall; granddaughter, Brittany Hall; grandson, Hunter Hall; brother-in-law, Ralph Porter, Jr. and family; sister, Carol Finger and family; and his beloved dogs, Daisy, Scamp and Meme Whittemore. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Luther Stanford officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 – 2 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service. Per Derryl's request, please dress casual. The family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, memorial donations may be made to the Bay County Humane Society, P. O. Box 883, Panama City, FL 32402 or to the American Cancer Society, 4001 W 23rd Street, Suite C, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Derryl Whittemore, Sr.
