Actor. He was an American actor, appearing on stage and in silent films in the 1910s to 1920s. Born Raymond Cederbloom to vaudevillian parents, he began his career in Broadway plays at an early age. A popular song-and-dance man, he toured with roles on stage in musical comedies. He appeared in the 1915 film "The Girl of My Heart" and "The Mystery of the Silent Death," which was released in 1928. He was the victim of an infamous love triangle involving his wife, an actress, Dorothy Mackaye, and a big, tough-guy actor, Paul Kelly. After Raymond had learned of the affair, an intoxicated Kelly went to the Raymond home for a confrontation and "to give him the threshing that was coming to him". That evening, Kelly actually beat the much-smaller-framed Raymond nearly to death. Not thinking his injuries were serious, his wife did not seek any medical attention until the next day after he declined. Shortly after arriving to the hospital, Raymond died. His wife and Kelly attempted to present the death as a natural one, but a newspaper reporter provided the circumstances of the death to the authorities and an autopsy was performed to prove the beating. Both were arrested. Raymond's maid witnessed the entire incident. His wife was convicted of withholding evidence and sentenced to ten months in jail. Kelly was convicted of manslaughter, serving 21 months in San Quentin State Prison. Upon being released, his widow and Kelly were married in 1931 and were until her 1940 death. Raymond married Dorothy Mackaye on August 1, 1921 and the couple had a daughter, who eventually used the surname of Kelly. He had divorced Florence Bain, an actress, in 1921.
