Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was born in Germany. He entered the Union Army in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. His highest rank was First Sergeant. He was awarded the CMOH as a Private in Company A, 30th Ohio Infantry for action on May 22, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads "Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party."
