BARNESVILLE - A. Mansil Coss, 91, of the Walton Retirement Home in Barnesville, formerly of 36400 Connor Ridge Road, Woodsfield, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2002) at Barnesville Hospital in Barnesville.
He was born June 14, 1911, near Marr to Arthur Cleveland and Anna B. Hall Coss. He was a retired welder for Republic Steel and L.T.V. Steel in Massillon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving during the Normandy Invasion. He was recently named the oldest Monroe County recipient of the Normandy Medal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5303 and American Legion Post 87, both at Woodsfield.
He is survived by one brother, Merle Coss and his wife, Jeannette, of Woodsfield; one niece, Becky Highman and her husband, Paul, of Woodsfield; two great-nieces, Mollie Landefeld and her husband, David Jr., of Woodsfield and Sarah Sawyers and her husband, Rustin, of Dublin; and one great-great-nephew, Dustin Wyatt Landefeld of Woodsfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield with Pastor James Porter officiating. Burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield with full military graveside services conducted by the Belmont Veterans Council. Friends will be received from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
