Lizzie's given name was Cassie Elizabeth Padgett. She was only eight years old when her father passed away. Despite this tragic loss leaving her and her family fatherless and a fifth child on the way, her mother carried on and eventually remarried and had four more children. Lizzie had a childhood sickness that permanently caused her head to tilt slightly to the right. She also had a hereditary bleeding disorder HHT which led to chronic and sometimes severe nosebleeds. Three of her children inherited the disorder. Lizzie was a peacemaker all her life and loved the Lord and her family without end. She loved her plants and flowers and looked forward to the return of the hummingbirds each year. She always had her garden and loved to cook. If you were at her house at mealtime, you ate! She lived in an era where she made her own soap for washing clothes out of beef tarter and lye and washed the clothes in a black wash pot over a fire. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she always hand made a special gift for all her grandchildren. Lizzie was a patient and gentle soul and a teacher to many of how to do in the kitchen and how to prepare and cook properly. Even her biscuits were amazing after she poked a hole in the center with her finger and added white Karo syrup. Many folks sat around her round table with a lazy susan and bench seats through the years. She is still missed by those who knew her and loved her dearly.
