Born in Elma, he grew up in Alden, worked on his father's dairy farm and attended Alden schools. Mr. Jantzi served in the Naval Reserve.
He worked in Thuman & Jantzi Auto Repair onn Millersport Highway in Getzville as a mechanic, from 1957 to 1976, when he and his son, Gregory, opened Hamburg Automotive Supply, a NAPA auto parts store on Buffalo Street in Hamburg. He retired from full-time work there in 1993, but continued part-time for several years.
An avid golfer, he was a 50-year member of Lancaster Country Club. A devoted hockey father, at one time he had three sons playing on travel teams.
His wife of 55 years, Marion N. "Mickey" Thuman Jantzi, died in 2009.
Survivors include four sons, Jeffrey, Gregory, Timothy and Michael, a sister, Margaret, two brothers, Peter and Earl, his companion, Lou Etta Knight; and nine grandchildren.
