Andrew Dalton Jordan, a direct descendant of the original settlers of Franklin County, died Saturday at Franklin County Hospital in Benton Illinois at the age of 86.
Mr. Jordan, whose home was on Benton Route 3, descended from the seven Jordan brothers who were members of the first settlers to arrive in 1804 in what is now Franklin County. The name of their original settlement was Frank's Fort, from the first name of one of the brothers. The fort eventually became Frankfort, part of the town of West Frankfort.
A retired carpenter, Mr. Jordan had been in ill health for a lengthy period. He lived all his life in Franklin County, and was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two children: Miss. Carmen Jordan and Eugene Jordan both of Benton, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife was the late Clara Noe Jordan.
