Rochester, N.Y., Oct. 3--Dr. Thomas Austin-Ball of this city, Professor Emeritus of the Eastman School of Music, died today in Strong Memorial Hospital. For twenty years he was vocal examiner and major voice teacher at the school. Dr. Austin-Ball was born in Belfast, Ireland, and received his early vocal training in Belfast and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He studied with leading teachers in Europe and then spent ten years touring the British Isles, singing in opera, concert and oratorio. Before coming to the Eastman School in 1923 he taught at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, and privately in New York and Montclair, N.J. He leaves a widow, Alice G. Austin-Ball.
