Cosmo Abbondante, a resident of Burlington for 50 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness, the beloved husband of 50 years ofRuth (Gray). He was 84 years old.
Cosmo was born in Gaeta, Italy. He was one of six children born to the late Ambrogio and Maria Abbondante.
He moved to the United States with his family at the age of 4 and settled in Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High and went on to further his education graduating
from Northeastern University with a degree in Engineering.
Cosmo had a successful career as a mechanical engineer working at BLH Electronics for over 35 years.
Cosmo was very handy. He added a porch to his home and built a brick barbeque in his back yard. He loved working on the computer. He had an interest in genealogy and did research on the ancestry of the Abbondante and Gray families which he proudly displayed in an album. Cosmo's family was the most important part of his life, and he loved spending time with this wife, his children and his three grandchildren.
Cosmo was the beloved husband of 50 years of Ruth (Gray). He was the loving father of Karen Maranto of Lowell, and John A. & his wife, Kristen of Melrose. He was the brother
of Aurelia Dovidio of Arlington, Ruth F. Gray of Burlington, Anna Magliozzi of
Burlington, Rose Eromin of Arlington, and the late Lorenzina Romano.
He was the devoted grandfather of Allyson and Nicholas Maranto, and Evan
Abbondante.
Funeral at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Tuesday, July 7 at 9 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy's Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 am. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. Interment in Pine Haven
