Old Solder Buried - Body of John W. Lane Laid to Rest -by His Comrades
The funeral of John W. Lane, aged 73 years, who died at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Sallie Lane McLemore, Bailey, Tenn., Jan. 25, at 9 o'clock a.m. was held yesterday afternoon in Elmwood Cemetery at 3 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. Winchester, of Calvary Church, officiating.
The deceased was one of the oldest and best known citizens of this county, respected and beloved by all who know him. He was the oldest son of the late Fletcher Lane, a pioneer merchant and citizen here before the war. He joined the Confederate cause at the beginning, was a member of Forrest's cavalry, and served the entire four years with distinction.
The following comrades were the pallbearers; Judge J. P. Young, Dr. B. G. Malone, Nelse Rainey, J. E. Clarkson, Mark W. Searcy and S. P. Bowdre.
