Betty Jane Rustebakke was born September 9, 1928 at Larimore, ND, the daughter of Alfred and Elna (Jensen) Rustebakke. She was raised and attended country schools in Plymouth Township, Grand Forks County. She graduated from Larimore High School in 1946. She graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing at Grand Forks, ND in 1949 as an RN. She married Daniel M. Aaker, September 3, 1950 at Elk Valley Lutheran Church, rural McCanna, ND. She worked at hospitals in Minneapolis, Minot, ND, and at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks. The couple moved to Lakota, ND in 1958 and together operated the Aaker Funeral Home for many years before retiring in 1982. During the time they operated the funeral home they also had an ambulance service for a few years and she was the caregiver. She worked at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center for several years. The couple spent 26 winters in Arizona until 2007. Daniel Aaker passed away May 14, 2011. She had been a resident of the Lakota Good Samaritan Center since April 28.
She is survived by: Son, James (Jeanne) Aaker of Lakota; Daughter, Dee Ann (Marc) Taylor of Mandan, ND; 4 Granddaughters, Carlee (Randy) Thomson of Cando, ND, Anna Rose Taylor of Brookings, SD, Christina (Jason) Craine of Mandan, ND, and Danielle Taylor of Mandan, ND; 2 Great Grandsons, Kaleb Thomson and Kole Thomson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded by her parents and her husband Daniel.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Russell Pollock. The organist will be Karen Fowler. The casketbearers will be Carlee & Randy Thomson, Christina & Jason Craine, Anna Rose Taylor, and Danielle Taylor. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at the Aaker Funeral Home in Lakota, and for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
