James died before October 6, 1795. This is the date that his will was proved.
James left Swansea and went to RI with his father. He lived in Glocester until the spring of 1748, when he took over the lands in Connecticut, which his father had purchased. He returned to marry as the record in Glocester states that James Eddy of Salisbury married Anne Burch of Stonington, CT. On the day of the marriage Joshua gave to James as a wedding gift, three parcels of land in Salisbury, consisting in all of about 325 acres. The stay in Salisbury must have been short if he returned there after his marriage, since in 1751 he was again a resident of Glocester, RI and in 1754 he purchased the homestead of James Tourtellot and added to this farm on April 19, 1957 (Glocester Deeds). Two years later James Eddy of Glocester for the sum of 4000 pounds sold to Brother William Eddy 70 acres of farm, where I dwell. Wife Anne signed the deed with a cross. In 1762 James Eddy of Glocester, yeoman sold "To my father, Joshua Eddy of Glocester, yeoman, a small part of the farm where I now dwell in Glocester" (Glocester Deeds. 7.129) In 1766 he sold all of his holdings in Glocester and went to Wilbraham, MA., where he purchased a home in which he lived nearly all the remainder of his life. He must have lived in Palmer during the last three or four years since his will gives Palmer as his residence.
When the Revolutionary War broke out he offered his services. His service was as follows:
James Eddy, Wilbraham. Private, Capt. Reuben Munn's co., Col. Nicholas Dike's regt.; pay abstract for travel allowance, etc., dated Roxbury, Sept. 17, 1776; also, same co. and regt.; pay abstract for travel allowance, etc., dated Roxbury, Nov. 26, 1776.
James Eddy, Private, Capt. Ephraim Chapin's co., Col. Ruggles Woodbridge's regt.; enlisted Aug 23; discharged Sept 30, 1777; service, 1 month 12 days, travel included, under Gen. Gates in Northern Department. Roll sworn to in Hampshire Co.
