SCHNEIDER-Romelle Therese Schneider, died January 16, 2002, in Oakland, California. She was born September 29, 1915 in Independence, Wisconsin, to the late Jerome and Agnes (Lyga) Schneider. Romelle attended LaCrosse State Teachers College and graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. Romelle was married to James Roosevelt, son of President Franklin Delano and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt from 1941 to 1955. Romelle was the beloved mother of Anna Eleanor Roosevelt of Chicago, Illinois, Michael Anthony Roosevelt and his wife Deborah of Berkeley, California and James Roosevelt, Jr., and his wife Ann of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sister of Phyllis (Schneider) Pittenger of Agoura, California, Ruth (Schneider) Tubbs and her husband Lon, formerly of Independence and currently of Upland, California, the late Jerome (Buddy) Schneider and the late George R. Schneider. Romelle is further survived by 8 beloved grandchildren; any numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Peter Healy on January 21, 2002, at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Pasadena, California, where Romelle lived for 45 years. Graveside services were held at SS. Peter and Paul Church Cemetery on January 26, 2002, with Rev. Thomas McInnis officiating. May she rest in peace.
