Gary DeWayne Kaiser, 63, formerly of Brunswick, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Inova Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Virginia following a short illness.
Mr. Kaiser was born in Brunswick on April 2, 1941. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1959. He earned a BS in Mathematics from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO in 1964. He then was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force, where he served tours in the United Kingdom and Republic of Thailand before being honorably discharged in 1969. Following military service Mr. Kaiser enrolled at Kansas State University where he earned a Master's degree in Mathematics and teacher credentials. He next taught Mathematics at Indian Creek High School in Shawnee Mission, KS and Liberty High School in Liberty, MO. In 1975 Mr. Kaiser took a position with TWA in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, initially teaching aerodynamics and physics to student pilots for Saudia Airlines, and then worked in the Saudia Airlines flight safety department. He returned to the United States in 1980 and attended the University of Missouri at Rolla where he earned an Electrical Engineering degree. He then worked in the aerospace industry for Martin Marietta in Denver, CO and Washington, DC and next for the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS and Huntsville, AL. He entered civil service in 1995 as an engineer for the Department of the Army at Fort Polk, LA and later Ft. Irwin, CA. In 1997 he transferred to the Department of the Air Force and worked as an engineer at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV and then Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He retired from government service in 2003 and returned to Liberty, MO.
Mr. Kaiser was an avid traveler, amateur astronomer, private pilot, and certified scuba diver among other interests. He was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible study groups at his many places of residence.
Mr. Kaiser is survived by his parents, Denzel and Emaleta Kaiser of Liberty, MO, two brothers, Larry Kaiser and wife Diana of Burke, VA and Raymond (Sam) Kaiser and wife Lisa of Clinton, MO, one sister, Vicki Kaiser of Lee's Summit, MO, seven nieces and nephews and one grand-niece. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1 at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3321 Vivion Road, Kansas City, the Rev. Lanny Lybarger officiating. Cremation.
A graveside service at the Brunswick City Cemetery will be held at a later date.
