Civic and fraternal leader. Founder in 1919 of Public Schools Week, a program he launched as Grand Master due to the decline of public education resulting from World War I. 53rd Grand Master of Masons in the State of California in 1919, being from Excelsior Lodge #166 of San Francisco. Also known as the dean of practicing attorneys in California. The movement spread throughout the United States and Public Schools Week is observed in almost state of the country. He also served on the California State Board of Education from 1927-1931.
