Joseph Henry Algermissen, 93, of San Antonio, passed away May 28, 2014. Visitation will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 also at St. Helena Catholic Church, followed by a 2:00 p.m. burial service at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Mr. Algermissen was born February 3, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from high school in Saint Charles, Missouri, he enlisted in the Navy and was soon accepted into flight training. Thus began a 34 year career in military aviation, which included a transfer to the Army and two combat tours in Viet Nam. He retired from active duty in 1974 and moved to San Antonio, where he ran his own heating and air conditioning business for fifteen years. He enjoyed golf, card games, and travel, and always said that he was born at exactly the right time, living from the end of the horse and buggy era through the beginning of the space age.

Mr. Algermissen was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James and Robert, his first wife Marguerite, and his son Donald Wayne. [Survivors names omitted] Memorials may be made to Saint Helena Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont, San Antonio, TX 78247, or to any charity of your choice.
