Glenn K. Blackwell, 96, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. He was born April 14, 1918 in Elwood, Missouri to John and Ida Blackwell who preceded him in death. He married Nora Dee Price on May 15, 1949, and was a devoted husband and father.

Glenn served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio operator. He served in this capacity for three years, nine months, and ten days, from February 1942 to November 1945. He was awarded a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars for his service in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal for the aforementioned campaigns. Following his service as a soldier, he continued to serve the United States Army as a contractor for 30 years.

Glenn is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nora Dee Blackwell, his parents, siblings, and a grandson, Stephen Daniel Smith. He is survived by his daughters Linda Cramer of Winfield, Kansas, Dorothy Morton of Savannah, Georgia, Patty Cunningham of Lebanon, Missouri, and Debbie Johns of Springfield, Missouri. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Michael Smith, Susan Morton, James Smith, Heather Arends, Amy Morton, Tim Cunningham, Danielle Keltner, Christopher Lynn, Johnathan Lynn, and Matthew Johns. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Glenn lived at the Gardens Independent and Assisted Living in Springfield for the past five years. Previously, he and Nora lived at their home in Springfield, Missouri for 20 years, following 40 years at their family home in Dixon, Missouri.
