Raymond E. Nance 91, of Abilene passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, in Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Parker officiating. Burial to follow in Clyde Cemetery, under the direction of North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St.

Mr. Nance was born July 6, 1922 in Seymour, Texas to James and Ana Mae (Truman) Nance.

While proudly serving his country in the United States Navy during WWII, he witnessed the planting of the American flag at Iwo Jima.

He married Helen Chapman Scitern, May 29, 2001.

He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy Nance. Three brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife Helen Nance; Step-children Delores Walker and husband Val of Lake Whitney, Janette Turner of Lamesa, Darrel Scitern and wife Stephanie of Lamesa; two sisters, Jimmie Ervin and Jessie Edwards Chappell both of Abilene. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Faith Baptist Church or Hendrick Hospice Care.
